What is Vasotec?
Vasotec is a medication whose generic name is enalapril. It is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), kidney problems, or to improve a person's chances of survival after having a heart attack. Generic Vasotec is exactly the same as the name brand medication. This medication is an ACE inhibitor. An ACE inhibitor works by preventing the formation of angiotensen II in the body. Angiotensen II makes the arteries in the body narrow thereby not allowing enough blood flow thus causing high blood pressure. By preventing the formation, Vasotec (enalapril) allows more blood to flow through the arteries in the body lowering blood pressure.
